SHG announces National Merit commended students

Five seniors from Sacred Heart-Griffin High School in Springfield have been named commended students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. They are: Brian P. Hardy, son of William and Linda Hardy; Alexandria Lamtyugina, daughter of Bill and Tatiana Davis; Riley McManus, son of Dennis and LuAnne McManus; Kevin Thomas, son of Ron and Jan Thomas; and Sean Wesp, son of Susan Vogler-Wesp and Aaron Wesp.

A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented to the students by the SHG principal Sister Margaret Joanne Grueter, OP.

About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2014 competition for National Merit awards, commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
