Decatur St. Teresa to present Jesus Christ Superstar

DECATUR — St. Teresa High School’s spring musical is Jesus Christ Superstar, to be presented on March 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Tickets are $8 and are available.

The musical, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice, is a rock opera originally recorded as an album. It became a hit stage show in 1971.

St. Teresa’s production, starring underclass veterans Sophia Schwalbach as Mary Magdalene, Cole Burdick as Judas Iscariot, and David A. Monk, a senior, as Jesus Christ, will be directed by Mary Midiri-Davis and choreographed by Cami Kerns. Musical directors are Rick Strine and Rae Ann DeSutter. The show’s orchestral pit will feature a rock combo conducted by John Gorecki.

Crew members Ryan Finley and Sam Tatham will be coordinating lights and sound. Seniors Caroline Forester and Erin Kurecki are serving as student director and stage manager, respectively.  

Seniors Annie Kefalus, Nathan DeSutter, Kevin Nutakor, Don J. Baker, Claire Glosser, Vanessa Cundiff, Luke Plossel and Melanie Anselmo will also be featured in what will be their last major high school production in roles such as Annas, Peter, Simon the Zealot, Caiphas the High Priest, and King Herod.
