obit-sister-rosann.jpgSister M. Rosann Monyak, OSF, age 84, of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, died June 25 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield.
Sister Rosann, the former Ann Therese Monyak, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 27, 1923, the daughter of Anthony John and Rose Joniak Monyak. She entered the congregation on Sept. 8, 1950, and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1953.
Sister Rosann served the community in various clerical roles at hospitals in Springfield, Decatur, and Litchfield in Illinois. She also performed mission work in Chinle, Ariz. For many years, she served as an operator at the convent switchboard. She retired to the motherhouse in 2001.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Rose Babinec, Sister Rosallita Monyak, OSF, and Josephine Babinec.
She is survived by two brothers: Anthony Monyak of Cleveland, Ohio, and John Monyak of Brookpark, Ohio, and two sisters: Helen Felgar of Cleveland, Ohio, and Cecilia Riegels of Pensacola, Fla., and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life for over 58 years.
The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Vincent Callahan, OFM, on June 27 in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the motherhouse. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
Staab Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of arrangements.
