Obituary - Sister M. Jolene Pachay, OSF

obit--sister-Jolene-PachaySister M. Jolene Pachay, OSF, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died Nov. 21 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield. She was 99 years old.

Sister Jolene, the former Helen Mary Pachay, was born in Chicago on Feb. 16, 1914, the daughter of Joseph and Karoline Kreitner Pachay. She entered the congregation on Sept. 7, 1940, and professed her religious vows on Oct. 4, 1943.

Sister Jolene was a graduate of Fontbonne College and served the community as a dietician in hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. She also served as supervisor of the purchasing/receiving department and switchboard at St. Francis Convent. From 1990-1995, she was switchboard receptionist at Hospital Sisters Health System.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Joseph Pachay; and one sister, Irene E. Griffin.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Helen Pachay, Madeleine Pachay, Maggy Pachay, Jim Griffin, Joe Pachay, John Pachay, Janet Kohn, Joyce Kiel, Jeffrey Pachay, and Jerry Pachay, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews, and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life for over 73 years.

The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial was held Nov. 25 in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent, with Father Andre Schludecker, OFM, presiding. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, Springfield, was in charge of arrangements.
