obit-sr-michael-lu.jpgSister M. Michael Lu, 86, of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis died July 25 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield.

Sister Michael, the former Francis Lu, was born in Peiping, Hopeh, China, on Dec. 28, 1921, the daughter of Lu Cheng and Lu Yuan Shih Ying. She entered the congregation on June 23, 1948, and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1951.

Sister Michael came to the United States in June 1948. She became a United States citizen on May 27, 1963. Sister Michael served the community in various domestic roles.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life for over 60 years.

The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Andre Schludecker, OFM, on July 29 in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

Staab Funeral Home, Springfield, was in charge of arrangements.
