Sister Dolorine Czok, OSF, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, died on Jan. 8 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield. She was 101 years old.
Sister Dolorine was born in Kempa, Silesia, Germany on April 17, 1914, the daughter of Franz and Maria Schymassek Czok. She entered the congregation on May 31, 1933 in Germany and professed her religious vows on May 3, 1936 in the American Province.
She graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing and did post-graduate studies in surgical nursing at St. John's Hospital.
Sister Dolorene served the community as an operating room nurse and supervisor of surgery from 1942 to 1975 at HSHS hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. In 1975, she was certified as a pastoral associate in general health care by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and served in pastoral care at HSHS hospitals in Illinois. She also served the Mission to the Poor in Peoria from 1982 to 1984 and retired from active duty in 1988 while in Effingham. She then volunteered as a family assistant in the surgical waiting room at St. John's Hospital until 2003.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, two nephews and a great-niece, all of whom live in Germany, and her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for more than 82 years.
The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Andre Schludecker, OFM, on Jan. 12 in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
