Obituary - Sister M. Rosalima Blough, OP

Blough Rosalima GS printSpringfield Dominican Sister M. Rosalima Blough died Jan. 15 at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born in Peoria, in 1917, and named Alice Virginia by her parents, Earl Blaine and Anna Catherine Ely Blough. She made her profession of vows in 1937 at Sacred Heart Convent.

Sister M. Rosalima ministered as an elementary and high school teacher for 56 years, primarily in Central Illinois and at Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights, where she taught math and science from 1961-1982. From 1993-2003, she worked in medical records at St. Mary-Rogers Memorial Hospital in Rogers, Ark., and from 2003 until retirement in 2014, she served as an assistant librarian at Sacred Heart Convent.

Sister M. Rosalima was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Josephine; her brothers, James, Robert, Milton, William and Phillip Blough; and by her sisters, Marion Blough and Marjorie Lange. She is survived by her brother, Thomas (Barbara), Springfield and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Jan. 17 at Aquinas Center, Sacred Heart Convent and began with a prayer service. A funeral Mass was celebrated that evening at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel with Father Peter Witchousky, OP, celebrant. Morning Prayer and Final Commendation took place on Jan. 18, also at Sacred Heart Convent. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.

The Dominican Sisters and family of Sister M. Rosalima were served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, Springfield.
