Driscoll Card PhotoAlbany, N.Y. — Sister Mary of the Incarnation Driscoll, OP (Mary Elizabeth), passed away on Nov. 15. She was the daughter of James and Nancy Driscoll of Yonkers, N.Y.

After graduating from St. Clare Academy in 1957, Sister Mary entered the Franciscans where she taught fifth-graders and studied history at Fordham before becoming a registered nurse. She transferred to the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1972. There she studied Scripture with Sister Kathryn Sullivan, RSCJ, worked in Bellevue’s emergency room, and went to Kenya as a midwife and with the aid of the people, built a dispensary.

Back in the United States, she became a geriatric nurse practitioner, sometimes helping out at a local Dominican monastery. Over time, she discerned a vocation to the Dominican contemplative life and transferred to Corpus Christi Monastery in the Bronx, at the age of 55, and with Parkinson’s disease.

She made her solemn profession in the Dominican Order on Dec. 8, 2001. In 2007 she moved to Rosary Hill, Hawthorne, N.Y., where she was lovingly cared for by the Dominican Sisters for 12 years. She became a member of the Monastery of Mary the Queen, Girard.

In need of more intensive care, on Aug. 24, she was accepted at Teresian House, Albany, N.Y., where she passed away.

She was predeceased by her nephew James Baker.

She is survived by her sisters Nancy Baker and Donna Santos, nephews Shaun Baker and Jason Santos, niece Cathleen Kusel, and cousin Regina O’Connell. She is also survived by seven grand-nieces, two grand-nephews, two great-grand-nieces and one great-grand-nephew.

Funeral Masses have been celebrated in both Corpus Christi Monastery, Bronx, N.Y. and Teresian House Infant of Prague Chapel, Albany, N.Y.
