ST. LOUIS — Sister Mary Ann Luth, OSU, died peacefully July 28, at St. Andrews at Francis Place in Eureka, Mo. She served many years in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. She was 100 years old.

The daughter of Louis H. and Marie Burke Luth, she was born May 28, 1920, in St. Louis. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in Kirkwood, Mo., in 1938, entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1940 and professed her vows in 1943. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle in New York and a master’s degree from St. Louis University.

An educator for more than 40 years, Sister Mary Ann taught at Marquette High School in Alton from 1971 to 1973 and 1978 to 1980. She was alumnae coordinator at Marquette from 1980 to 1993. She served as president of Springfield College in Illinois from 1975 to 1978 and was RCIA director for St. Bernard Parish in Wood River from 1995 to 2006. She taught at Ursuline Academy in Kirkwood, Mo., and was principal there from 1955 to 1959. Sister Mary Ann also served in Frontenac, Minn., and New Orleans. She was a councilor on the Central Province leadership team from 1966 to 1971.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Louis H. Luth Jr. and James E. Luth; and sisters Virginia Luth Polito and Elizabeth L. Luth. She is survived by her brother Frederick J. Luth, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
