obit-thaddine-chopp.jpg Sister M. Thaddine Chopp, 94, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died Jan. 5 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield.

Sister M. Thaddine, the former Pauline Mary Chopp, was born in Calumet, Mich., on April 26, 1914, the daughter of Joseph and Maria Trebnick Chopp. She entered the congregation on Sept. 8, 1943, and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1946.

Sister M. Thaddine was a 1952 graduate of St. John's Hospital School of Nursing. She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing as well as master's degree in nursing from St. Louis University. She obtained a post graduate certificate from the Chicago Mental Health Institute. She served the community as a registered nurse at hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. From 1968-1972, she was the administrator of St. Joseph's Home for the Infirm and Aged in Monroe, La. She was an instructor at St. John's Hospital School of Nursing from 1955-1968 and 1978-1982. She was an instructor at the University of Illinois College of Nursing in Chicago from 1972-1974. She held various positions at the motherhouse from 1982-1996 when she retired from active duty due to failing health.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Edith Mullin, Margaret Tagel and Mathild La Valliere; and four brothers, Joseph, John, Frank and Carl Chopp.

She is survived by one brother, Alex Chopp, Sheboygan, Wis.; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; several cousins; and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life for over 65 years.

The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Vincent Callahan, OFM, on Jan. 8 in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
