Sister Mary Dorothy Kiel, a Sister of Divine Providence, passed away on Nov. 11 at Stearns Nursing and Rehab Center. She was 90 years old.

Born Dec. 16, 1929 in Brussels, she was the daughter of William and Dorothy (Schmidt) Kiel.

Sister Mary Dorothy served in the ministry of education in schools in Missouri and Illinois as a teacher and principal. 

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Denis and Jenice Kiel of Brussels; two sisters, Dorothy Johnes of Godfrey and Angie Willoughby of California, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers and her sisters-in-law, William and Rose Marie Kiel, Cyril and Alice Kiel, and Lee Kiel.

A visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial was held Nov. 16, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis.

Memorials may be made to Room at The Inn Homeless shelter in Bridgeton, Mo., Masses, or La Posada Providencia Refuge Center in Texas.
