In Memoriam - Sister Miriam Patricia Faricy, OSU

ST. LOUIS — Sister Miriam Patricia Faricy, OSU, died peacefully May 12, at St. Andrew’s at Francis Place in Eureka, Mo. She served many years in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.

Faricy Miriam Patricia CMYKBorn Sept. 27, 1930, to Patrick W. and Gertrude Coleman Faricy in Prior Lake, Minn., she entered the Ursuline community in January 1949 and professed her vows in January 1952. She earned a bachelor’s degree in math from the College of New Rochelle in New York and master’s degrees in education and math from Notre Dame University in Indiana. She also received a certificate in spiritual direction from Aquinas Institute in St. Louis.

Sister Miriam Patricia was a teacher, principal, spiritual director and leader who served in Alton; Crystal City and St. Louis in Missouri; Frontenac, Minn.; Galveston, Texas, and Rome, Italy.

She taught at Marquette High School in Alton from 1955 to 1963 and was principal from 1967 to 1971. She taught at Villa Maria Academy in Frontenac from 1963 to 1965 and was leader of the Ursulines’ Frontenac community from 1990 to 1996. Her Central Province leadership roles included serving as a councilor from 1969 to 1971, provincial prioress from 1971 to 1977, provincial assistant from 1996 to 1999, and provincial treasurer from 1998 to 2006. She also served at the Ursulines’ Generalate in Rome from 1977 to 1989 as assistant general of the Ursulines of the Roman Union.

Sister Miriam Patricia is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Schneider; nephews Michael, Robert and Christopher Schneider; and niece Teri Jackson.

A funeral Mass was celebrated May 22 at St. Peter Church in Kirkwood, Mo. Burial was at St. Peter Cemetery.
