Bishop Paprocki responds to recent ‘Question Corner’ column
Written by Bishop Thomas John PaprockiIn the “Question Corner” in the last issue of the Catholic Times, the answer given by Father Ken Doyle was less than helpful in response to the question from a father whose adult daughter has joined her fiancé’s Protestant church and is planning to get married outside the Catholic Church. As publisher of the Catholic Times, I apololgize for that and will try to provide a better answer.
Father distraught because daughter joined Protestant church
Written by Father Ken DoyleQ I am a lifelong Catholic. My wife was raised Lutheran and converted to the Catholic faith after we were married 35 years ago. We raised our four kids in the Catholic Church.
Our daughter, who is 24, joined a Protestant church about a year ago. She met a young man at church, and they recently became engaged. It breaks my heart that she will not be married in the Catholic Church. (I voiced my concerns to her before they became engaged.) My wife is more understanding, since she was raised a Lutheran.
