Obituary - Sister Mary Elizabeth Brya, OSF

obit-sister-Mary-Elizabeth-BryaSister Mary Elizabeth Brya, OSF, 91, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died June 25 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield.

Sister Mary Elizabeth was born in Decatur on Feb. 25, 1921, the daughter of Francis and Julia McGuire Brya. She entered the congregation on Sept. 8, 1939, and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1942.

Sister Mary Elizabeth was a graduate of St. John's School of Nursing. She served the community as a nurse in hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin, and she served in the occupational and physical therapy departments at St. Francis Convent for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Brya.

She is survived by one brother, Denny Brya; one sister, Julann Brya Condit; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life for over 73 years.

The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian burial was held June 28 in the St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent with Father Andre Schludecker, OSF, celebrant. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements
