Obituary - Sister Anne Miriam Landolt, SSND

obit-sr-Anne-Miriam-Landolt-SSND1ST. LOUIS — Sister Anne Miriam Landolt, SSND, died July 2 at St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, Mo., age 75.

A native of Litchfield, she entered the congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1953 from Sacred Heart Parish in Livingston. She professed first vows in 1955 and final vows in 1961. She earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the former Notre Dame College in St. Louis in 1957, a bachelor's degree in nursing from St. Louis University in 1983 and a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Oklahoma-Norman in 1966.

Sister Anne Miriam taught chemistry, math and religion to high school students for 23 years at Quincy Notre Dame, Quincy; Rosary High School, St. Louis; Mater Dei High School, Breese; and Duchesne High School, St. Charles, Mo. While teaching in St. Charles, she was certified as a chemist for the St. Charles County Narcotics Squad, worked with the youth crisis organization and was a volunteer probation officer.

After passing state nursing boards, Sister Anne Miriam began working in the field of public health. She spent 12 years in Honduras as a medical missionary, and also trained catechists and functioned as a pastoral minister. She taught in Notre Dame Elementary School in Bandipur, Nepal, for two years and then educated women in health care for one year. She lived with four Japanese School Sisters of Notre Dame during this time.

Returning to the United States, she was a pastoral minister/chaplain at Starr County Memorial Hospital in Rio Grande City, Texas, and ministered with the Communidades Eclesials de Base at Immaculate Conception Parish in Rio Grande City. After seven years in Rio Grande City, Sister Anne Miriam became a volunteer nurse educator at the Migrant Whole Health Outreach in Kennett, Mo.

She is survived by a brother, Robert of Alhambra, and a sister, Phyllis Dickman of Belleville.

The funeral Mass was held July 6 in the School Sisters of Notre Dame Theresa Center chapel in south St. Louis County. Burial was in the Sancta Maria in Ripa Cemetery.
