Obituary - Sister Mary Agnes Hermes, OSU

Sister Agnes grew up in Alexander, on the family farm, received her early education at Prairie College Elementary School and graduated from Ursuline Academy in Springfield. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in July 1940, making her vows in January 1943. She received her bachelor of arts degree from the College of New Rochelle in New York and her master of arts degree from DePaul University in Chicago, doing post graduate work at the University of Dayton in Ohio, and St. Louis University. A long list of teaching assignments, supervisory responsibilities, leadership positions and nearly 20 years as provincial secretary took her to Springfield, and Oak Park in Illinois; Galveston, Texas; and Festus, Crystal City, Kirkwood and Arnold in Missouri. She retired in 2011 to the Ursuline Community in Alton, where she served as assistant archivist until her death.

A funeral Mass was celebrated June 22 at the Ursuline Convent Chapel, with Father Tom Horan, OMI, presiding.

Staten-Fine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
