She was born in Assumption on Sept. 13, 1918, the daughter of the late Ralph C. and Margaret (Bradley) Maher. She received her secondary education at Ursuline Academy in Kirkland, Mo., and entered the Ursuline Sisters in July 1935, making her vows on Jan. 16, 1938. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Fontbonne College in St. Louis, and master's degrees at St. Louis University and Loyola University in Chicago. This training led her to a variety of ministry assignments in Decatur, Springfield, Alton, and Chicago in Illinois; Swatow, China; Havana, Cuba; Jennings, Kirkwood, and DeSoto in Missouri; Laredo, Texas; and Frontenac, Minn. She served as teacher and administrator in Ursuline and parish schools, as a missionary in China and Cuba, religious community administrator, and religious educator. In 2001, she chose to come to the Queen of Peace Healthcare Center in Alton where she spent her final years.

She was preceded in death by three sisters: Alice Regina Behl, Edith Lucille Kilgour, and Florence Theresa Tilghman; and three brothers: James William Maher, Ralph Cornelius Maher and Joseph Anthony Maher.

A funeral Mass was celebrated July 16 in the Ursuline Convent Chapel, with Father Jim Walther, OMV, presiding. Memorials may be made to the Queen of Peace Healthcare Center, 845 Danforth Street, Alton IL 62002.
