Obituary - Sister Dolores Bieser, OSF

obit-Sister-Dolores-Bieser-3Sister Dolores Bieser, OSF, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died Aug. 27 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield.

Sister Dolores, the former Dolores Bieser, was born in Belleville on Dec. 11, 1923, the daughter of Xavier and Agnes Holzinger Bieser. She entered the congregation on Feb. 2, 1949, and professed her religious vows on Oct. 4, 1951.

Sister Dolores was a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing, East St. Louis. She later earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degrees in nursing education from St. Louis University. She worked as a nurse for Alverna Home Nursing Center in Chicago 1951 to 1953 and again in 1975. She was a clinical instructor in maternity at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, from 1957 until 1961. She worked as an OB supervisor at St. Francis Hospital in Washington, Mo., from 1961 until 1969 and as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield from 1969 until 1975. From 1975 until 1994, she served in various capacities at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

 She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by one sister, Joann (Sal) Fiore of Belleville; one nephew, Mark (Barbara) Fiore of Columbia; three nieces: Linda Fiore (friend, Cindy Hickman) of Moro; Diane (Mike) Taylor of Chanhassen, Minn., and Karen Hollingsworth of Belleville; several great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life for over 64 years.

The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Andre Schludecker, OFM, on Aug. 31 in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

Staab Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
