LANCASTER, Pa - Sister Eric Albrecht, ASC, died on Aug. 21 at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pa. She made first vows on July 1, 1962 and final profession on July 1, 1967. She was 76 years old and had been an Adorer of the Blood of Christ for 51 years.
Sister Eric was born to the late Joseph and Bertha Anna (Mueth) Albrecht in Mascoutah, on Feb. 13, 1937 and named Helen Barbara. She was the only girl in the family of five siblings. An avid sports fan, she played for a highly rated fast-pitch softball team in north-central Illinois before entering the Adorers. She received both a bachelor’s degree in theology (1964) and a bachelor’s degree in medical records (1978) from St. Louis University.
Sister Eric ministered in education, health care, and community service to the Adorers. She taught high school physical education at Mater Dei High School in Breese (1964-65; 1969-70) and at St. Pius X High School in Festus, Mo. (1965-69). Her elementary teaching experience was at St. Clare in O’Fallon (1970-71; 1972-73) and St. Jerome in Bissell Hills, Mo. (1971-72). She worked as admitting clerk and medical records supervisor at Taylorville Memorial (St. Vincent’s Memorial) in Taylorville (1973-76; 1978-86); as medical records transcriptionist at St. Joseph Hospital in Murphysboro (1986-94); as receptionist at Red Bud Nursing Home (Maria Care) in Red Bud (1999-2004); and as elder companion and ward clerk at St. Joseph’s Villa in David City, Neb. (2004-2006). She served as provincial councilor for the former Ruma province from 1994-1998 and as community life assistant at the Columbia, Pa., Center from 2006 until her death.
Her brother James (Judy); sister-in-law Eileen, nieces and nephews, and community members across the region survive her. She was preceded in death by parents, her brothers Irvin (Betty, deceased), Henry, and Allan (Eileen).
Sister Eric had requested to be cremated. Two memorial services were held, the first at St. Anne’s Retirement Community chapel in Columbia, Pa., on Saturday Aug. 24. In Ruma at the ASC Center, the Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday, Aug. 26. Father Clyde Grogan was the presider, with Sister Janet McCann, ASC, giving reflections.
