Funeral held for mother of Father Jakel

She was born Feb. 7, 1925 near Pierron, the daughter of Anton G. and Wihelmina A. (Goestenkors) Korte. She married Harvey R. Jakel on March 5, 1946 and he passed away on July 1, 2009. Also preceding her in death were an infant daughter Sharon A. Jakel, her parents and four siblings.

She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland. She and her husband operated a dairy farm east of Grantfork, until 1985. She moved to Highland in 2004. She had been a resident of Faith Countryside Homes, Highland Home, Legacy Place and in the winter of 2012 moved to Faith Care Center. She enjoyed attending events for her children and grandchildren as well as sewing, baking and crocheting.  

Survivors include her children, Father Jakel, pastor of St. Jerome Parish in Troy, St. Elizabeth in Marine, St. James in Saint Jacob and St. Gertrude in Grantfork, Carl C. (Margaret) Jakel of Breese, Dale A. (Cindy) Jakel of Bowling Green, Ky., Jane G. (David) Deiters of Highland, Karen A. Jakel of Alton, Ellen G. (Randall) Gall of Troy, Brad G. (Julie) Jakel of Highland, Larry G. (Debra) Jakel of Montgomery, Ala., Joan G. (Marvin) Holtgrave of Highland, and Don J. (Kari Rutz) Jakel of Highland, as well as 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and nine siblings.  

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, June 2 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland with burial in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Grantfork. Spengel-Bollanger Funeral Home in Highland was in charge of arrangements.
