Obituary - Sister Aloise Meurer, SSND

Meuer AloiseSister Aloise was a former educator in Catholic parish schools for 74 years. In the Springfield diocese, she taught at St. Francis Solanus, Quincy, and St. Louis, Nokomis, where she also served as principal. She was principal and teacher at a Belleville parish; in Washington, Shrewsbury, Jefferson City and St. Louis in Missouri; in Liberty, Texas.; and in Houma, Marrero and Baton Rouge in Louisiana.

Sister Aloise participated in The Nun Study through the Universities of Kentucky and Minnesota and was the last participant from the former St. Louis Province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. As a participant, Sister Aloise was one of 678 sisters who helped scientists learn about the aging process and Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers studied her early life, lifestyle, education, and physical and mental abilities.

Sister Aloise was preceded by her parents; her four sisters and five brothers.

The funeral Mass was held July 2 at the School Sisters of Notre Dame Theresa Center chapel. Burial was in the Sancta Maria in Ripa Cemetery, St. Louis.
