Milwaukee — Sister Loretta Jo Geigel, a School Sister of St. Francis who lived her religious vocation in education, died Nov. 19 at Sacred Heart Convent in Milwaukee. She was 104 years old.
The daughter of Joseph and Anna Geigel, she was born May 1, 1910 in Manitowoc, Wis. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis June 15, 1926. She made her first profession of vows Aug. 23, 1928; and final (perpetual) vows Aug. 23, 1934.
Beginning in 1927, Sister Loretta Jo ministered in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota for nearly nine decades. In the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, she taught at St. James School in Decatur from 1927-1928 and served as a homemaker at St. James Convent in Decatur from 1935-1946.
Sister Loretta Jo is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the School Sisters of St. Francis, with whom she shared her life for 88 years.
A funeral liturgy was held Nov. 26 at St. Joseph Convent in Milwaukee. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee.
