Obituary - Father Victor Kingery, OFM

Kingery VicFather Victor Kingery, OFM, died Dec. 5 at St. Francis Convent in Springfield. He was 90 years old.

He was born Feb. 1, 1924 in Montrose, to Marshall and Rena Meyer Kingery. He was ordained a priest on June 24, 1949 in Teutopolis.

Father Victor served as an instructor, chaplain and librarian in various places in Illinois and in Ohio. He was a teacher and librarian at St. Joseph Seminary in Oak Brook from 1960 to 1970. From 1970 to 2002, he was librarian at Quincy University. He worked for one more year as a librarian at Padua Franciscan High School in Parma, Ohio before retiring in 2003. He also served on the Quincy Public Library Board for a number of years. He was known for his kind personality and bright mind.

Father Victor is survived by his sister, Theresa Nuxoll of Effingham; and three brothers: Virgil Kingery of Effingham, John Kingery of Teutopolis, and Arthur Kingery of Peoria.

A funeral Mass for Father Victor was held on Dec. 10 at St. Francis Church in Teutopolis and burial followed at St. Francis Cemetery. Staab Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
