Sister M. Cabrini Harasimowicz, OSF, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, died on Jan. 27, at St. Francis Convent in Springfield. She was 90 years old.
Sister M. Cabrini, the former Marcella Harasimowicz, was born in Chicago on April 5, 1924, the daughter of John and Dominika Jablonski Harasimowicz. She entered the congregation on Sept. 8, 1945 and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1948.
She served in the accounting departments at hospitals in Illinois, Wisconsin and Missouri. She also served the community as provincial treasurer from 1976-1988, and as an assistant provincial treasurer from 1988-1999. In 1999, Sister M. Cabrini retired from active duty and served as a volunteer in the assisted living and infirmary areas of the motherhouse until 2009. From 1999, until shortly before her death, she faithfully served in a ministry of prayer and adoration at the motherhouse.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters: Anna Swartz, Sophie Deguzman, Helen Deangelo, Marie Rodgers, Sister M. Clarette Harasimowicz, OSF, and Genevieve McClellan; three brothers: Stanley, Alphonse, and Albin Harasimowicz, as well as a nephew, Alan Harasimowicz.
Sister M. Cabrini is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for almost 70 years.
A Eucharistic celebration and Rite of Christian Burial took place on Jan. 30 in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent with Father Andre Schludecker, OFM, presiding. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of the arrangements.
