ALTON — Sister Margaret Mary Butski, FSGM, passed away on March 6 at OSF Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton. She was 57 years old.
She was born Feb. 11, 1958 in Detroit, the daughter of Stanley S. and Loretta A. (Cook) Butski. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George in 1976. She professed her first vows in 1979 and her final vows in 1983. She also celebrated her Silver Jubilee in 2001.
Sister Margaret Mary was a student at St. Francis Convent in Alton from 1979 to 1983, and was a nurse in various places from 1983 to 2000. She was also sacristan at St. Francis Convent and was office manager at St. Francis Day Care Center in Alton. She was secretary at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Springfield for several years and then was secretary for the diocesan Offices for Family and Youth Ministry from 2006 to 2009. She served as librarian at St. Francis Convent in Alton from 2009 to 2015. In Springfield, she lived at St. Michael Convent.
Sister Margaret Mary is survived by her parents; one brother, Steve Butski; one nephew, Steve Flowers; and one niece, Christine Flowers, all of Addison.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 10 at the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George Convent Chapel with Father Thomas Donovan as celebrant. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis of the Martyr St. George Convent, P.O. Box 9020, Alton, IL 62002-9020.
Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton was in charge of arrangements.
