Obituary - Sister Margaret Marie Vitt, OSU

ALTON - Sister Margaret Marie Vitt, OSU, died July 18 at Saint Anthony's Health Center, age 81.

She was born on April 3, 1927 in Peru, Ind., daughter of John Thomas and Grace (McGinnis) Vitt. She entered the Ursuline order in July 1944 and made her vows on Jan. 16, 1947.

In addition to teaching on the elementary, secondary and collegiate levels in Texas, Illinois, and Missouri, Sister Margaret Marie served in Ursuline leadership, at Washington University's Newman Center, and as pastoral assistant at Our Lady of Lourdes in St. Louis. She joined the Queen of Peace Infirmary Community in Alton in September 2005.

Sister Margaret Marie is survived by two sisters, Louise Vitt Reiter and Lily Vitt O'Connell. Her parents and two sisters, Margaret Vitt and Grace Vitt Peters, and two brothers, Tom Vitt and Bill Vitt preceded her in death.

The Mass of Christian Burial was July 22 at the Ursuline Convent in Alton.
