Obituary - Sister M. Maxine Frichtl, OSF

obit-sister-m-maxine.jpgobit-sister-m-maxine.jpgSister M. Maxine Frichtl, OSF, age 96, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, died Aug. 10 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield.

Sister Maxine, the former Margaret Genevieve Frichtl, was born in Newton on Aug. 8, 1912, the daughter of John and Emma Yager Frichtl. She entered the congregation on Oct. 15, 1929, and professed her religious vows on May 30, 1932.

Sister M. Maxine was a 1935 graduate of St. John's Hospital School of Nursing. She also did post-graduate work in anesthesia and surgery at St. John's Hospital. She served the community as a nurse anesthetist in hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin, including serving at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator from 1962 through 1989. She returned to the motherhouse in 1989.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Edgar, Adam, and Oscar Frichtl, and three sisters, Anna Hippler, Regina Wilson, and Teresa Robinson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life for almost 79 years.

The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Vincent Callahan, OFM, on Aug. 13 in St. Clare of Assisi Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

Kirlin Egan and Butler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
