Obituary - Sister Ruth Marie Boeckmann, ASC

Born on March 19, 1934, in New Baden, she entered the Adorers of the Blood of Christ on Dec. 30, 1950, and was received into the community July 1, 1951. She made first vows on July 1, 1952, and final profession on July 1, 1957.

She had spent most of her ministry in child care in Illinois and also assisted for many years in the Ruma Center financial office.

Sister Ruth spent most of her ministry in child care, working for several years at Catholic Children's Home in Alton. From 1952 to 1953, she was a house parent for the younger boys. In 1953, she assumed office work duties at Children's Home until 1957. From 1962 until 1982, Sister Ruth was again house parent at Catholic Children's Home for the younger boys. She also worked as a house parent in New Mexico, taught third grade in Centreville and was a coordinator at a home for developmentally disabled women in Columbia. In 1993, Sister Ruth began the Latchkey program for Ss. Peter and Paul School in Waterloo, and directed it until 2000. She also was bookkeeper and financial assistant at De Mattias Hall in St. Louis (1992-1993) and at the Ruma Center from 1984-1990 and from 2000 until 2011.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 25 in the chapel of the Adorers' Ruma Center. Sister Ruth Marie had requested to be cremated. Burial was in the community cemetery.

Surviving are a sister, Florence Lakenburges of Germantown; brothers David Boeckmann of Wright City, Mo., and Vernon Boeckmann of O'Fallon; along with many nieces, nephews and community members. Her parents Bernard and Marie (Fehrmann) Boeckmann, and brothers Charles Boeckmann and Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate Father Floyd Boeckmann preceded her in death.
