Obituary - Sister Clara Malanowski, OP

obit-sr-clara-Malanowski-Sister Clara Malanowski (also know as Sister M. Joachim), 94, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died Nov. 2.

She was born to John and Anna Fruzyna Malanowski in Chicago. She joined the Springfield Dominicans in 1947. For 39 years Sister Clara taught and/or administered in Catholic parish elementary schools: St. Thomas, Newton; St. Mary, New Berlin and Assumption; St. Margaret, Algonquin; St. Maurice, Morrisonville; St. Isidore, Farmersville; Sacred Heart, Granite City and St. Charles, Hampshire. Sister Clara ministered from the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Center, Carlinville; at Ft. Belknap Reservation, Dodson, Mont.; and at St. Thomas, Philo. In recent years, she served her sisters in various ministries at the motherhouse.

Sister Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Frank, John, Anthony, Joseph and Victor; and her sisters, Virginia, Bertha, Philomena, Veronica and Anna. She is survived by a niece and a nephew.

The funeral Mass was held Nov. 6 at Sacred Heart Convent in Springfield, with Father Peter Witchousky, OP, presiding. Final commendation and burial were Nov. 7 at Calvary Cemetery, Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund, 1237 W. Monroe, Springfield, IL 62704.

Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
