Obituary - Sister Rita Wiegand, SSSF

dl-obit-Sister-Francis-Rita-Wiegand-coCAMPBELLSPORT, Wis. — School Sister of St. Francis Rita (Barbarine) Wiegand, who lived her religious vocation in education for more than six decades, died Nov. 18 at St. Joseph Convent in Campbellsport. She was 88.

The daughter of Henry and Barbara Wiegand, she was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Petersburg, Neb. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis on June 13, 1944; made her first profession of vows June 21, 1946; and final (perpetual) vows June 21, 1952.

Beginning in 1946, Sister Rita spent more than 60 years ministering in Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa and Montana. In the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, Sister Rita taught at Immaculate Conception School in Pierron from 1949 to 1960.

Sister Rita is survived by her sister Carol McDermott; her nieces, nephews and friends; and the School Sisters of St. Francis community with whom she shared her life for 68 years.

A wake and funeral liturgy were held Nov. 21 at St. Joseph Convent, Campbellsport, followed by burial at Sisters' Cemetery.
