Obiturary - Sister M. Doris Poettker, OSF

dl-obit-Sr-Doris-PoettkerSister M. Doris Poettker, OSF, 94, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on Jan. 4, at St. Francis Convent, Springfield.

Sister Doris, the former Eugenia Christine Poettker, was born in Aviston, on May 25, 1918, the daughter of Herman and Mary Strieker Poettker. She entered the congregation on Sept. 8, 1937, and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1940.

She was a graduate of St. John's School of Nursing and St. Louis College of Pharmacy. She served as a nurse, pharmacist, administrator, and pastoral care associate at hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. She returned to the motherhouse in 2002 after having served in various capacities at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham, since 1985.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph Poettker and Cletus Poettker.

She is survived by one brother, Cyril Poettker of Breese; and two sisters, Marie Plocher, Highland, and Dolores Netemeyer, Albers; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life for over 75 years.

The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Andre Schludecker, OFM, on Jan. 7 in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent. Burial was in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
