Sister M. Dominica Brennan, OP, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died March 18 at age 77.

The daughter of Thomas and Florence Buttell Brennan, she grew up in Springfield where she was a member of Cathedral Parish and a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy.

After professing her vows as a consecrated religious sister in 1957, she taught at St. Edward in Chicago, St. Bernadette in Evergreen Park and at Little Flower in Springfield. In 1963, she was one of the founding faculty members of Rosary High School in Aurora. Beginning in 1971, she served in congregational leadership for 18 years.

In 1992, Sister M. Dominica was appointed vice-chancellor and then chancellor for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, where she also ministered as director of the Office for Conciliation until 2008. Since 2008 she has been director of mission integration for her congregation. In addition, she served in parish adult formation and as an accomplished pianist and choir director. For 23 years, she was a member of the Canon Law Society of America.

Sister M. Dominica was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, James and Thomas. She is survived by her brother Richard (wife, Jean) of Salinas, Calif., and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A funeral Mass presided by Archbishop Harry Flynn, DD, was held on March 25 and final commendation on March 26. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery.
