St. Teresa Bulldogs to play at Busch Stadium
The St. Teresa Bulldogs have a special opportunity this year which they want to share with the community. The Decatur Catholic high school's baseball team will face the Meridian Hawks at Busch Stadium in St. Louis after a Cardinals' home game on Monday, April 3.

Bridge the Gap to Health expands in 2008
Quincy Catholic Charities, Quincy Medical Group and Blessing Hospital are teaming up for the eighth annual Bridge the Gap to Health Run/Walk on Saturday, April 12, at Clatt Adams Park, starting at 9 a.m. The run/walk starts at the Quincy Riverfront and crosses the Bayview Bridge to Missouri and back.

Bishop Lucas celebrates annual chrism Mass with priests, faithful
Approximately 500 people came to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday of Holy Week to take part in the annual chrism Mass. Bishop George J. Lucas concelebrated the Mass along with about 60 diocesan and religious priests from throughout the diocese. About 20 deacons and several seminarians took part in the Mass as well.

Care Center of Springfield celebrates 30 years of service
The Pregnancy Care Center of Springfield will celebrate 30 years of service at its annual spring luncheon on Monday, April 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Northfield Inn. Tickets are $25, which includes a silent auction and an education program. Doors will open at 11 a.m. for the silent auction.

Art glass mosaic fully visible after years of being hidden
Renovation work in 2006 at the then 55-year-old St. Mary Church in Taylorville revealed a surprise to many people. During a 1972 renovation after Vatican II, a handmade art glass mosaic of St. Joseph on the right side of the sanctuary had been entirely covered up, only to later be partially uncovered to balance a scaled down mosaic of the Blessed Mother on the other side of the sanctuary.

Fund-raiser to support services for abused children
The Sangamon County Child Advocacy Center will hold the second annual La Nuit de L'Enfant (The Night of the Child) Gala Fund-raiser on Friday, March 28, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. Accountant ‘keeps ’em in stitches’ with her quilts
Just a block west of the Catholic Pastoral Center in Springfield at Fairhills Mall, the handwork of a Curia staffer was on display during the month of February at the Calico Heart Quilt Shop. The quilts and wall hangings were made by Barb Scoggins, an accountant in the diocesan Office for Finance, who was featured quilter of the month.

Cathedral open house set for March 2

Major renewal program announced for Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield will undergo an $1l million restoration which is anticipated to take over a year to complete, once it begins in the fall. Bishop George J. Lucas announced details of the plan at a Feb. 25 news conference held in the nearly 80-year-old cathedral.

Holy Family Food Pantry planning Easter food basket distribution
With Lent already under way, the staff and volunteers at Holy Family Food Pantry in Springfield are gearing up for the distribution of Easter food baskets. The baskets will include the makings for a traditional Easter dinner, plus a week's worth of groceries. Easter baskets and candy for children will also be included, as will eggs and Easter egg coloring dye kits.
