Sister Marian Zarones, 81, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died July 17.

RUMA — Sister Dorothy Ann Ax, an Adorer of the Blood of Christ, died July 28 at the ASC Ruma Center. She was 87 years old and had been an Adorer for 71 years.

ALTON — Ursuline Sister Mary Margaret Maher died July 11 at the Ursuline Queen of Peace Healthcare Center here.

ALTON — Ursuline Sister Mary Agnes Hermes died June 13 at the Ursuline Convent in Alton. The daughter of Edward Andrew Hermes and Gertrude Agnes Bergschneider, she was born on Nov. 25, 1922 in Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Andrew Hermes. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary, and nine devoted nieces and nephews.

ALTON — Sister Thomas Batten, OSU, aka Flora (Florence) Catherine Batten, died June 4 at the Ursuline Queen of Peace Healthcare Center.

ALTON — Ursuline Sister Virginia Marie Killam died May 22 at the Ursuline Queen of Peace Healthcare Center in Alton. The daughter of James Benjamin Killam and Mary Hattie Marie Martelon, she was born July 14, 1920, in Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by one brother, Benjamin Andrew "Bud" Killam, who died in the polio epidemic of 1936. She is survived by two devoted cousins, Elsie Marie Lippott of Wheatridge, Colo., and Mary Lee Munsell of Loveland, Colo.

ALTON — Ursuline Sister Lourdes Suarez (Maria de Lourdes Suarez), died peacefully April 14 at the Ursuline Queen of Peace Healthcare Center in Alton.

RUMA — Sister Mary Benedict Hayden, ASC, died Feb. 15 at the Ruma Center after having suffered a stroke Feb. 13. She was 88 years old and had been an Adorer for 71 years.

Sister Joan Flannigan, (also known as Sister M. Brian), 84, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died March 3.

Sister Mary Thomas Jirauch, CDP, 84, died Feb. 11. Sister Mary Thomas ministered in education and in healthcare.

ALTON — Sister Christine Bramlet, OSU, died Feb. 15 at Saint Anthony's Hospital, age 82.

MILWAUKEE — School Sister of St. Francis Marilyn Wolfram, who lived her religious vocation as a musician and educator for 50 years, died Jan. 3 at Ruth Hospice. Sister Marilyn was 83.

Sister M. Doris Poettker, OSF, 94, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on Jan. 4, at St. Francis Convent, Springfield.

VIRDEN — Nickie Maynerich, 61, of Virden, wife of Deacon Frank Maynerich Jr. of the Springfield diocese, died Dec. 8 at her home.

CAMPBELLSPORT, Wis. — School Sister of St. Francis Rita (Barbarine) Wiegand, who lived her religious vocation in education for more than six decades, died Nov. 18 at St. Joseph Convent in Campbellsport. She was 88.

Sister Clara Malanowski (also know as Sister M. Joachim), 94, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died Nov. 2.

RUMA — Sister Ruth Marie Boeckmann, ASC (formerly Sister Mary Joachim) died Oct. 20 at the Ruma Center. She was 77 years old and had been an Adorer of the Blood of Christ for 60 years.

Sister Mary Harris (also known as Sister M. Armand), 77, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died Sept. 16. She was born to Armand and Marion Stewart Harris in St. Paul, Minn. She joined the Springfield Dominicans in 1956.

MADISON — Father Victor Alan Barnhart, 55, a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, died Sept. 16, in St. Louis.

ST. LOUIS — Sister Joseph Miriam (Jo) Nemec, SSND, died Aug. 27 at Anna House-The Sarah Community in Bridgeton, Mo. She was 80 and a former teacher, retreat center director and artist.

ST. LOUIS — Sister Mary Odilo Brinker, SSND, died Aug. 21, at Northwest HealthCare Center in Florissant, Mo. She was 93 and a former convent "house sister" and community service volunteer.

RUMA — Sister Teresa Young, ASC, died Aug. 7. She was 67 years old and had been an Adorer of the Blood of Christ for 47 years.

ST. LOUIS — Sister Anne Miriam Landolt, SSND, died July 2 at St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, Mo., age 75.

Father Robert Behnen, OFM, of the Sacred Heart Province of Franciscans, died July 11 in hospice care at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

ALTON — Sister Damian Aycock, OSU, died July 6 at the Ursuline Queen of Peace Healthcare Center in Alton.

Sister Mary Elizabeth Brya, OSF, 91, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died June 25 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield.

Sister M. Rosaire Barton, OP, 94, died June 30 at the Dominican Motherhouse in Springfield. Having graduated from Cathedral Grade School and Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield, she joined the Dominican Sisters of Springfield in 1936.

RUMA — Sister Aloysia Schumacher, ASC, died May 29 at the Ruma Center, age 85. Irma Joan was born into a Clinton County farming family on Feb. 15, 1927, joining four sisters and two brothers. As Sister Aloysia, she made first vows on July 1, 1945 and final profession on July 1, 1950. She had been an Adorer of the Blood of Christ for 67 years.

Sister Mary Catherine O’Connor, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on June 5, 2012 at St. Francis Convent, Springfield.
